17th Street Automotive is easily the best auto shop I’ve ever been to! They take detailed photos of everything on your car and give recommendations for what should be repaired with detailed explanations. This has allowed us to know what needs to be fixed immediately and what we should keep an eye on over the following months! The prices are fair and they are very supportive of military families! Couldn’t be happier to take our cars here!

Shop itself is good and the people are nice, no issues with that. They do a good job on writing up estimates and provide photos/video to clearly see what is being diagnosed. The reason I am giving only one star is the pricing. Coming from the Washington DC area, I am used to seeing/paying premium prices. But I've NEVER seen prices this high in any shop I've taken any of my vehicles. I've taken cars to dealerships, speciality speed shops and custom performance shops and the markups on prices were astronomical 100%+ in most cases. I could have purchased high performance parts cheaper for what they were charging for typical aftermarket parts. Labor rates that were are $50-60 more an hour. I got 5 quotes on the same repairs from other local shops and they came in $3000-4000 less than 17th street. It was $450 just for diagnostics (never paid that much at a dealership or anywhere for that matter) stating since it was an older vehicle it needed more work. Old trucks are not complex machines like today's vehicles and I found it hard to follow that rationale. All that said I chose to pass on allowing them to do any repairs on my vehicle and took the $450 diagnostic as a cautionary tale and absolutely would not recommend based solely on pricing. This is a standard shop and not custom and honestly they should be ashamed at those prices. Every other shop that saw the pricing on my estimate had nothing bad to say about 17th Street, however they were even shocked by the pricing.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for acknowledging the friendliness and thoroughness of our team at 17th Street Automotive (your inspection report is attached below). We understand your concerns regarding the pricing and want to provide some clarity on the factors that contribute to our quotes. 1. Comprehensive Diagnostics: Your 1987 Dodge pickup, a classic 37 YEAR OLD TRUCK, you came in asking for our help and presented us with MULTIPLE issues including several road noises on acceleration, , loose tie rods, ball joints, loose steering, rattling around the u-joint, suspension and rear diff noise concerns, and a malfunctioning washer fluid system. Addressing these in older models requires a meticulous approach, often taking more time than with newer vehicles due to their unique configurations and potential for underlying issues not immediately visible. 2. Quality of Service: We pride ourselves on NOT just being a "standard shop." Our time commitment to our local small businesses and community, investment in the latest tools and updated equipment, and emphasis on continuous education for our team members—both online and in-person, even mentorship programs—are integral to providing service that goes above and beyond. This dedication ensures we can handle a wide array of vehicles EVERY YEAR, EVERY MAKE AND EVERY MODEL, including those that dealerships may not service due to their age or condition (which they didn't even take the time to help you, did they? because the dealership do not care about your old truck, go ahead and try to set an appointment and let us know how that goes!) 3. Documentation: As you mentioned, we document our findings with photos and videos, a practice not all shops undertake. This level of transparency is part of our effort to ensure you're well-informed about your vehicle's condition and the necessity of recommended repairs. We worked on your truck since February 7th and you just now picked it up on the 12th, we brought your truck in for safe keeping every night in our facility to make sure it's safe and that nothing happens to the beauty of the old truck, that we appreciate. 4. Customized Solutions: While we understand that price comparisons are essential, it's also important to consider the value and quality of the components being used, the 3yr/36k mile warranty offered, and the EXPERTISE/AGE of the technicians (you expect a 18 y.o. kid to work on a 37 year old truck, Let alone figure out all your issues??? GOOD LUCK.... Our pricing reflects not only the cost of high-quality parts but also the specialized knowledge, and skills required to correctly diagnose and repair older vehicles. And why get 5 quotes from 5 different shops? isn't 2 good enough? is there a underlying loyalty commitment issues? 5 quotes over and over from 5 different shops? so we can pick who to give a 1 star review to? We cannot run our business on a customer's budget unfortunately, we tried to help you and you give us a 1 star review for what? To bash us for our pricing because it doesn't fit your old school pricing? 5 shops? FIVE? Tire kicker... 5. Community and Cleanliness: Our commitment to the community and maintaining a clean, welcoming waiting room/shop environment are aspects of our business that we hold in high regard. These contribute to a positive customer experience and reflect our overall dedication to excellence. We genuinely appreciate your feedback and want to ensure that our customers feel valued and respected (goes both ways). If there are specific aspects of the quote you'd like to discuss further, or if you have suggestions on how we might improve our pricing, we are more than willing to engage in a constructive conversation at 757-425-8917 ask for Billy. Our goal is to ensure that every customer leaves our shop feeling satisfied with the service and value they receive ✌️ God Bless 🙏 https://shop.tekmetric.com/inspection/JSnAR0oghCypN6axiaVL_D7lMy7sBXlWraRkxbU44hU

Ok Billy, allow me to respond...Why so defensive, resorting to name calling "a tire kicker"? Most people that get defensive like that because they want to hide their true intentions (aka hustling your customers). If I am a part of the community, you so "dearly service" why attack me? I did not attack you, I just said $190 an hour for labor is ridiculous (which I am sure offended you) you should be embarrassed, not offended. Part mark-up was even worse. Custom shops do not charge that much, and the part mark-up, for that you should be ashamed, I get you need to make money on part mark-ups, but $300 for a battery, less labor, come on buddy. (BTW, Costco $105 for an Interstate battery and 20 min to replace, and I'm guess your $300 battery was not going to be that (now tell me how Interstate Battery sucks also). It is a 1987 pickup truck , so this "complex" piece of machinery "a tractor" is too much for you and your team? Or it is because your little computer cannot tell you what is wrong and make it easy for you? Dealers don't work on cars this age, (which you should know better, I certainly do) if older cars are too hard for you, just don't take them (but wait, that would cut into the price gouge right?) . Your comments on multiple quotes, what do you care if I get 2 quotes or 100 quotes? It is my time and money to do that and shouldn't concern you if you're "top notch". You should encourage it (obviously you don't because you know your prices are off). Getting quotes is called "due diligence" and no different from anyone that wants to get a pricing baseline. The pro's that are doing the same repairs for about $3K less are not the 18-year old's you mentioned in your retort. You're not the only shop in the area with seasoned mechanics. You are just to cover a high overhead and you pass it to your customer. I am just not interested in being hustled to cover you being over-extended. And yes my car was there from Feb 7-12, what you forgot to mention is most of your shop was out sick during that time (not actually working on the truck). If you are really sincere and want a phone call to discuss, you have my number, Best of luck to you but, do your homework and don't take their prices at face value. Or go against them and get insulted, they love their community and lashing out at customers is how they show it if you go against them. Bye Billy.

Probably the best auto repair shop I've been to! Had basic oil service done and requested a general checkup/inspection and they were able to find a few suggestions after a very thorough inspection! And they use a virtual system where they take picture of what they're seeing, explain why it might need to be fixed, and give the estimate right there. Definitely noticed a difference in the smoothness of braking after they suggested the brake fluid flush. Everyone there was super professional and kind, and the cost of service was very reasonable!

Thank you so much for your 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐review! We're absolutely thrilled to hear about your positive experience at 17th Street Automotive. It's fantastic to know that our thorough inspection, along with the use of our Digital Vehicle Report for sharing pictures/videos/attachments and estimates, exceeded your expectations. Ensuring that your vehicle operates smoothly and SAFETY is our top priority, and it's wonderful to hear that you noticed a difference in your braking after the brake fluid flush. We're also delighted that you found our team to be professional and kind, and that you were satisfied with the cost of service. Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us, and we look forward to continuing to provide you with outstanding service in the future. Thank you for choosing us and for taking the time to share your experience! Love, Your humble mechanic 🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧

Came in for State Inspection last week and was recommended to get my front brakes done soon. I just had it done today and the staff were so nice and very much accomodating in helping me find any possible malfuction to my car since there was a random pop on my dashboard the day before I had my front brakes done. The owner and his staff were kind enough to checked my car prior to leaving it last night to get my front brake done today and after the front brake were replaced, the staff even test drove it once to see if they are seeing any pop up on my dashboard. I couldn't thank you guys enough also for getting my car done quickly to make sure i don't have to worry about this car trouble before my husband leaves for deployment next week. Thank you so so much for a family like service!!!

Being new to town, I came here for a state inspection. My car failed due to an exhaust leak, which was fair. They quoted me over $1000 to replace it which included 3.5 hours of labor. I am definitely not a car expert but I know that was an overcharge. Being a female, I value an honest mechanic shop that won’t take advantage of my naivety in this subject. I received a second opinion which informed me that this was a fix that would not take longer than a hour of labor. When I returned, there was little negotiation in price and immediately starting talking about financing options. I went somewhere else and they did stellar job with the repair within a day for $200. I get that they are running a business, but there are many other mechanics that do a great job and are more budget friendly and trustworthy.

Dear Magdalen, Firstly, thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your experience at our auto service center. We understand your concerns regarding the quote for the rusted exhaust flex pipe/flange repair, and we'd like to clarify our approach for your peace of mind. We pride ourselves on offering comprehensive and transparent services. As part of our commitment to transparency, we provided a detailed digital vehicle inspection report, complete with pictures, videos, and attachments, to ensure you had all the necessary information about your car's condition. The report below is included in this reply for your reference https://shop.tekmetric.com/inspection/POTt_gxZo5pJEA8myPYQp1LC4heqJqsNT1QH_Ojihng Regarding the quote for replacing your exhaust, it's important to note that our approach prioritizes long-term solutions over temporary fixes. The quote we provided was for a complete replacement of the rusted parts, not just a 'patch job' which will definitely be cheaper... The pictures in the inspection report would require to cut the rusted "thin" 2 exhaust flanges and extract/replace the rusted/weak nuts/studs/bolts x4 (see pics in report for reference), We believe in doing thorough work that ensures safety and durability backed by 3 year/36k mile warranty, especially considering your vehicle failed the Virginia State Inspection due to this rusted exhaust issue. We understand that cost is an important factor in your decision-making. However, our pricing reflects not only the quality of the parts used but also the expertise and time our certified technicians dedicate to ensuring the job is done right. While it's possible to find lower-cost options, our focus is on providing a repair that stands the test of time, especially in cases of significant rust damage. We regret to hear that our service did not meet your expectations, and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused. Our team is committed to providing friendly, trustworthy, and professional service. We understand the importance of having a reliable auto service partner, especially when you are new to the area. We will continue to reevaluate our prices to match competitors and try to be within our market value. Thank you for your valuable comments 🙏🙏it is much appreciated so we can work on our pricing and approach. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we are taking it seriously as part of our ongoing efforts to improve our services. Should you wish to discuss this matter further or have any future auto service needs, please do not hesitate to contact us directly. 17th Street Automotive ❤❤❤❤❤
